James Acaster and Graeme Wicks have never rushed anything. The Wow! Scenario, their long-running project, has just shared ‘Instructions!’ as the second preview of their upcoming Bella Union debut, ‘Stand in the Star. A Verse and a Chorus’. The single arrives with a video, and the album follows on 23rd October.
The record’s path has been longer than most album campaigns. Formed in Kettering in 2004, the duo recorded their songs with producer Chris Hamilton in December 2007 — after deciding to call time on the band. They slept in the studio for a month, tracking jazzy guitars, freewheeling drums, and airport field recordings. The album was mixed in January 2008, then shelved. A 2018 return saw the vocals removed and re-recorded on saxophone, clarinet, and fiddle, with added cello. Still incomplete. Not until March 2023 did BC Camplight and Emma Daman record the vocal parts, leading to a third mix and a March 2025 completion.
