Medical Negligence Confront a True-Crime Ritual Case on “Rey Chivo”

Medical Negligence have spent close to a decade turning violent sound into an examination of real-world horror. On “Rey Chivo,” the Guadalajara five-piece pulls directly from a 2012 case in Nezahualcóyotl, State of Mexico, in which a five-year-old boy was blinded by family members during a religious ritual. Contemporary reports described participants praying in anticipation of an apocalypse. The song, released July 3 through Arson Theory, leans into the dark atmosphere, the child’s fear, and the entity the band named “Rey Chivo.”

Formed in 2016, Medical Negligence have independently released two full-lengths—Odium In Venas (2017) and Evil (2020)—alongside EPs and singles, combining death metal, hardcore, and goregrind. They have logged hundreds of shows across Mexico, South America, and the United States, sharing stages with Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation, Origin, Exhumed, Nile, Aborted, and Brujeria.

The video, directed, produced, and edited by Perla Vigueras, pushes the case into full horror. Vigueras handled cinematography with Daniel Garcia; vocalist Agustín Preciado wrote the script. Santiago Rentería stars as the child, while René of Tepmter plays the Devil. Guitarist Oscar Bitzer notes the single is not part of an upcoming release, but sets the tone for music currently being recorded in the studio.
