CHVRCHES Return With New Single “Roses” and a New Label

CHVRCHES are not easing back into view. “Roses,” the Scottish trio’s first single in five years, arrives as tense synth rock with a sharper edge — and on a new label. After a long run with Glassnote, the band has moved to Futures Music Group, home to Lykke Li, Phantogram, and Mt. Joy, for what they describe as a deliberately different chapter.

The track follows the longest gap between CHVRCHES albums. Their last, 2021’s Screen Violence, topped the Scottish chart and reached No. 4 in the U.K. Since 2023, the group has been largely quiet while Lauren Mayberry released her solo debut, Vicious Creature, in 2024. But in March, Mayberry, Martin Doherty, and Iain Cook regrouped at London’s Royal Albert Hall for a Teenage Cancer Trust benefit, where they debuted three additional songs: “Lullabies,” “Nightmares,” and “Conman.”

“When we got together to write new music, we wanted to really push ourselves and not be retreading ground we’d walked before,” Mayberry says. “It feels like the most coherent vision we’ve had as a band.”

Next month, CHVRCHES play intimate dates in Glasgow on Oct. 26 and London on Oct. 29, with tickets available through a draw on the band’s website. The shows suggest the new material is being tested in close quarters before anything larger is announced.
