Netflix Delays Gary Glitter Documentary Three Weeks Before Premiere

Netflix has postponed Hunting Gary Glitter, an investigative docuseries about the disgraced glam rocker’s history of child sexual abuse, three weeks before its scheduled October 14 premiere. The streamer also removed the trailer from YouTube.

A Netflix representative said the decision “follows new legal information we recently became aware of,” adding that the company could not share further detail. Directed by Sebastian Smith, the three-part series follows journalists and police investigators who exposed Glitter’s crimes across multiple countries, including Vietnam, Cuba, and Cambodia. It includes first-person interviews covering his 1999 conviction for possession of child pornography, his 2006 conviction in Vietnam for abusing two underage girls, and his 2015 UK conviction for abusing three underage girls, for which he received a 15-year sentence. Glitter was briefly released in February 2023 but returned to prison the following month after violating probation.

The postponement leaves the documentary without a new release date. While the series’ logline remains focused on survivors and the pursuit of a figure who used chart success to conceal abuse, Netflix has not indicated when or whether the project will surface again. The public record is unchanged, but the delay leaves an unfinished accounting in limbo.
