The band scrapped four scheduled shows one day before the run was set to begin, with venues citing circumstances beyond their control.
The Beach Boys’ planned return to the stage this week collapsed before it began. One day before a four-show September run was set to start, the band cancelled all dates without offering an explanation.
The shows were meant to mark the end of a break following over 30 postponements on the Pet Sounds 60th anniversary tour. Mike Love had described the pause as a chance to “recharge,” but the September routing was already light: four performances between September 24 and 27 in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina.
Venues in Quakertown and North Myrtle Beach cited “circumstances beyond our control,” using identical language. A spokesperson for the Beach Boys did not respond to a request for comment.
The cancellation follows months of visible strain. Reviews from earlier dates described Love’s voice as diminished and his stage presence as frail. The band postponed dates in June because of an unspecified illness, resumed, and then pulled 30 shows through late September.
The group’s next listed concert remains October 9 in Bloomington, Illinois. While Love has kept the touring version focused on hits, Al Jardine continues to perform with the Pet Sounds Band, drawing from deeper catalog material including 1977’s The Beach Boys Love You.
