Sleeper’s sixth studio album is set for 12 February 2027, with the title track already circulating nearly two years before the record itself arrives.
Sleeper have confirmed their sixth studio album. End of the World is scheduled for 12 February 2027, and the title track is out now, which gives the record a long public life as a single before it exists as an album.
Long lead times have become a familiar strategy, and they are rarely accidental. Announcing a release this far ahead turns it into a campaign rather than a moment, and asks listeners to hold onto a title before they have a set of songs to attach to it.
Sleeper’s position in that history is specific. Fronted by Louise Wener, the band were among the few British guitar groups of the mid-Nineties led by a woman at that level of visibility, and singles like ‘Inbetweener’ and ‘Sale of the Century’ remain part of the Britpop archive.
The appetite for that era’s guitar music has not faded. Babyshambles will top the Saturday bill at Butlin’s Skegness in March 2027, with Gene and Ned’s Atomic Dustbin also on the bill, a lineup that says as much about the current live economy as it does about any one band.
What End of the World has to answer is whether Sleeper are adding to that archive or restaging it. The title track, available now, is the first piece of evidence.
