The Boston festival returns to Roadrunner February 4-6 with a lineup that puts noise pop elders alongside the label’s own emo and post-hardcore axis.
Run For Cover Records has confirmed the 2027 edition of Something in the Way, its own multi-day festival, running February 4-6 at Roadrunner in Boston. The Jesus and Mary Chain headline. Two- and three-day passes are already on sale.
The Scottish noise pop band’s presence at the top of the bill says something about how the label positions itself. Run For Cover built its reputation on emo, post-hardcore and indie rock, and the undercard reflects that: Turnover, Wednesday, Trapped Under Ice, Incendiary, Nothing, Model/Actriz, Gouge Away, Trauma Ray, Krill, Jejune, This Is Lorelei, Meat Puppets and YHWH Nailgun are all on the lineup, with more still to be named.
Meat Puppets on the same poster as Trapped Under Ice and Model/Actriz is a deliberately wide booking, less a genre statement than an argument about lineage. Bands like Wednesday and Gouge Away have spent recent years working through distorted, guitar-forward traditions that the Reid brothers helped define in the mid-1980s, so the pairing reads as genealogy rather than nostalgia.
A pre-show at the Sinclair in Cambridge on February 3 extends the weekend, with Bren Lukens of Modern Baseball, Wicca Phase Springs Eternal and Georgia Maq, formerly of Camp Cope. That smaller bill points in a different direction: the acoustic-leaning, emotionally exposed end of the same world the main festival draws from. The full lineup is available through the festival’s website.
