Darkest Hour Release “Warrior” From Suffer Divine, Out October 30

The Washington melodic death metal veterans preview their next album with a new track, set for release through MNRK Heavy.

Darkest Hour have released “Warrior,” a track taken from their forthcoming album Suffer Divine. The record is scheduled for October 30 via MNRK Heavy.

For a band that has been working at this since the mid-1990s, a new single carries different weight than a debut. Darkest Hour built their reputation in Washington, D.C. at a time when melodic death metal was largely a Scandinavian export, and they have spent the years since refining more than reinventing: twin-guitar harmonies sharpened against hardcore rhythm, vocals that sit at the edge of intelligibility. That combination has kept them legible to metal audiences without making them easy to file away.

“Warrior” comes with little framing beyond its title, a word that in this genre tends to signal resolve, endurance or confrontation. Whether the track leans on the band’s thrashier instincts or its more melodic register is the question a single is meant to set up, and the answer will shape expectations for the full record.

Suffer Divine follows on October 30 through MNRK Heavy. What “Warrior” establishes in the meantime is tone rather than a full picture.
