A$AP Rocky Turns a Live Rarity Into “Shroom Clouds”

“Shroom Clouds” has been a known quantity for years without being a released one. A$AP Rocky performed it a handful of times in 2021 and 2022, then set it aside. The finished version is out now via A$AP Worldwide/RCA, with Jeremih and Reggie added to the track, produced by Sleeping Bear and Hector Delgado. It previously circulated under the title “Mushroom Clouds.”

That history matters more than the release itself. Rocky’s unreleased material has long lived in a parallel economy of live rips, leaks and phone footage, so an official version does not arrive as a debut. It arrives as a correction. The studio cut has to answer to whatever version listeners already decided they preferred.

Rocky told Billboard the song is the first taste of Don’t Be Dumb – Disc 2, a detail the single’s press release does not confirm. His explanation was specific: “Disc 2 is all of the songs that I dropped that those alter egos didn’t get an album to live on, because the next chapter is right after that.” It frames the project as a sequence of chapters rather than one statement, with the looser, persona-driven material given its own space instead of being absorbed or discarded.

Rocky is currently preparing to tour Australasia. By then, “Shroom Clouds” will have to hold up as a record rather than a rumour.
