Helena Deland will release Eternity Shrugs on January 22 through Chivi Chivi, with the single “Tip of My Tongue” arriving ahead of an extensive 2027 tour.
Helena Deland has announced a new album. Eternity Shrugs arrives January 22 via Chivi Chivi, following 2023’s Goodnight Summerland. The first single, “Tip of My Tongue,” is out now.
The song is built around recognition rather than revelation. In a statement, Deland described it as a study of a long-deferred encounter with someone from the past: the private arithmetic of how closely you have kept up with another person’s life, and the strange collapse of distance when a familiar person turns up in an unfamiliar form. “The song was arranged with that feeling of familiarity in mind,” she said, “like something that has been on the tip of my tongue for a long time.”
That is a modest premise, and Deland treats it as one. The interest sits in the gap between what a person remembers and what is actually in front of them, a tension she has worked at before across a catalogue that tends to prefer understatement to statement.
The record will be supported by a long run of dates beginning in February 2027, opening in Quebec City before moving through Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris and Brussels, then four UK shows and a North American leg that includes Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, Washington, New York, Toronto and Montreal. It is a schedule that puts an album about private recollection in front of a fairly large number of rooms.
“Tip of My Tongue” is streaming now. Eternity Shrugs follows on January 22.
