Bill Ward, Geezer Butler, Bruce Dickinson and Nicko McBrain Join Texas Frightmare Weekend

Four heavy metal figures will appear at the Irving, Texas horror convention in May 2027 under the banner “Monsters of Metal,” alongside Hellraiser star Doug Bradley.

Texas Frightmare Weekend has built its reputation on horror, but its 2027 edition is leaning on metal. The Irving, Texas convention will host Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward and bassist Geezer Butler, along with Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson and retired drummer Nicko McBrain, under the banner “Monsters of Metal.”

The event runs May 28th to 30th at the Irving Convention Center. The schedules do not fully overlap. McBrain attends the first two days, Dickinson the second. Ward and Butler are listed for the final two days, which makes Saturday the one date where all four could plausibly be in the same building.

The pairing is less arbitrary than it looks. Both bands spent their formative years borrowing from horror imagery, and the convention circuit has become one of the few places where that shared vocabulary is treated as ordinary rather than eccentric. Ward and Butler in particular appear rarely enough that their presence carries weight for Sabbath fans who have spent the last decade watching the band’s history be formally closed.

This is not a performance and nothing suggests it will be one. The four are attending as guests among a broader lineup that includes Doug Bradley, Pinhead in Hellraiser, on hand for the franchise’s 40th anniversary. Pricing and signing schedules are handled directly by the convention.

Iron Maiden, meanwhile, have a US tour set for spring 2027 with Bullet for My Valentine and The Raven Age. The convention is a separate occasion, but it points at the same thing: metal’s oldest institutions are still finding rooms to fill.
