Alanis Morissette Details First Holiday Album With Martin Short on Judy Garland Duet

Alanis Morissette has confirmed plans for her first holiday album, revealing a Judy Garland duet with Martin Short during a conversation with Alex Cooper on Call Her Daddy. The specific Garland selection has not been named.

The project grew from an annual recording tradition. Morissette has been recording one holiday song each Christmas for several years, gradually building a full-length collection. She added two new originals to those recordings: To an Empathic Christmas Time and Christmas on the Dance Floor. Among the standards, she cited What Child Is This and Little Drummer Boy as songs she especially enjoys singing.

Her connection to the season deepened after her son Ever was born on Christmas Day. That personal history informs the album without being forced into its framing.

The holiday record arrives as Morissette prepares for her Los Angeles residency, Butterfly With a Machete, which begins in November. She described the show as a mix of music and storytelling, touching on menopause and ageing alongside comedy, dance, and visuals. The residency, she said, partly reacts to expectations about how women should behave.
