Alanis Morissette Sues Former Tour Manager Over Alleged Extortion Scheme

Alanis Morissette has filed a lawsuit against her former tour manager, Keren Urinov, claiming Urinov tried to pressure her into a 15-year employment contract by threatening to falsely implicate her in drug-related accusations. The suit, filed Tuesday in Los Angeles federal court, follows two airport detentions during a 2025 tour.

According to the filing, Urinov was stopped at a U.K. airport while traveling with Morissette’s team to a concert in Spain. She told border officers that a bag containing marijuana and xylazine belonged to her, showed an Israeli medical marijuana license, and was released. She was detained again in Spain and reportedly made a similar statement.

After the tour ended, Morissette alleges Urinov and her lawyer sent letters demanding that Morissette tell British law enforcement the drugs were hers or face litigation. The alternative, according to the complaint, was a 15-year full-time contract with significant compensation, annual raises, and bonuses, plus an immigration lawyer for Urinov. When Morissette refused, the letters allegedly escalated to an implied threat of drug trafficking accusations.

Morissette says she filed her own suit reluctantly, believing she had no choice against what she calls “patently frivolous” allegations. She is suing for civil extortion, fraud, and negligent misrepresentation, seeking more than $75,000 in compensatory damages, punitive damages, and a jury trial.
