Anitta Becomes First Brazilian Musical Guest on Saturday Night Live

The global pop star performed two tracks, including her new Shakira collaboration, during a historic appearance on the NBC show.

Anitta made her debut as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live last night, marking the first time a Brazilian artist has held the role. The appearance comes days ahead of the release of her new album, Equilibrium.

During the show, she performed “Várias Queixas” and her new single “Choka Choka.” The studio version of the latter track is a collaboration with Shakira, though the Colombian star did not appear for the live television performance. The album is scheduled for release this Friday.

The milestone underscores Anitta’s sustained crossover into the mainstream North American market, following a series of high profile international collaborations and performances. Her SNL booking places her within a select lineage of Latin American pop figures to headline the show’s musical segment.
