Britney Spears Charged With Misdemeanor DUI, Arraignment Set for Monday

Ventura County prosecutors filed the charge on Thursday, offering a plea deal that would reduce it to a “wet reckless” offense, a common outcome for first-time, low-level DUIs with no accident or injury.

Ventura County District Attorney’s Office charged Britney Spears with one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence on Thursday, April 30. The charge stems from a March traffic stop.

Spears is scheduled for arraignment on Monday, May 4, at 9 a.m. PT. She is not required to appear in person. Her attorney can attend on her behalf.

Prosecutors said they will offer a plea deal known as a “wet reckless.” This resolution is typically extended to people with no prior DUI offenses, a low blood alcohol level, and no collision or injury. In a statement, the DA’s office called it a common approach in these circumstances.

The singer’s legal situation arrives during a stretch with no new music releases, though her catalog continues to pull considerable streaming figures. Court proceedings will likely focus attention from a fanbase still invested in her public narrative.
