Cancer Bats Drummer Mike Peters Steps Back From Touring, Stays Central to Band

The announcement reads less like an exit than a restructure. Mike Peters, the drummer who has been with Cancer Bats since their early years, is ending his time on the road. He will stay involved with the Canadian hardcore band in management, North American booking, and writing and recording. The reason is practical: two young children at home.

Peters framed the move around family rather than fatigue. “I am so fortunate to be a part of this beautiful worldwide community we call punk and hardcore,” he wrote in a statement. “But I have two young kids at home that I need to be home for.”

The live drum role goes to Ian Romano, known for his work with Daniel Romano’s Outfit, Pig Pen, Career Suicide, and Corrosives. Peters has performed on every Cancer Bats release since joining early in the group’s run, so the shift carries weight even while the catalogue remains intact.

The change lands between two busy stretches. Cancer Bats recently released their eighth studio album, “Give Me Dirt,” and are preparing for the Marshall Made of Loud tour, a 16-date October run through the UK with Knives and Ignite. The route runs from Dover to Glasgow, closing on Halloween at London’s Electric Brixton. Romano steps in for those dates.

The tour also carries a tangible commitment to the venues it visits, funding green-room refurbishments, backstage work, stage backdrops, and infrastructure upgrades meant to outlast the run. Separately, Cancer Bats frontman Liam Cormier plans to shave his head for charity, with donations going to The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.
