Charlotte Adigéry and Bolis Pupul Return With First Single in Four Years

Four years after Topical Dancer, Charlotte Adigéry and Bolis Pupul are restarting with a song less concerned with dancefloor provocation than with the physical and emotional weight of new parenthood. “Googoo Gaga” arrives as their first single since the 2022 album, co-produced once again with Soulwax and released through Soulwax’s Deewee label and Because.

The duo’s own words frame the track without softening it. “‘It takes a village, and yet you’re doing it alone,’” they said in a press release. “This record was made as we both became parents: ‘Googoo Gaga’ is about feeling drained, the self-sacrifice, the overwhelm, yet embracing all of it.” That tension, between collective expectation and isolated daily labor, gives the return a less triumphant, more specific center.

Lennert Madou directed the video, which accompanies the single. The pairing of Adigéry and Pupul with Soulwax remains intact, but the subject matter signals a shift in vantage point: less skewering external social dynamics, more sitting inside an unglamorous, private stretch of life and finding a pulse there anyway.
