Chez Damier and Jovonn will DJ alongside jayah hasson on July 30, with art installations and live screen printing reframing a West Loop venue as a bridge between house music’s origins and its present.
On July 30, Chicago’s Punch Bowl Social in the West Loop will host a one-night event that connects the city’s house music lineage with current creative networks. Co-produced with SPIN and Guest List, the evening puts Chez Damier at the center of a lineup that traces a slow arc from early ’90s club culture to today.
Damier’s presence gives the night its historical weight. As a figure whose work has traveled far beyond its Chicago origins, he helped define the functional heart of deep house with tracks like “Can U Feel It?” and “I Never Knew Love” — records that still circulate in sets worldwide. Before Damier takes the decks, Jovonn, a New York-bred producer rooted in the ’90s house continuum, will play his own classics, including “Pianos of Gold” and “Back in the Dark.” Local DJ jayah hasson opens with a set built for a room, not a playlist.
The event stretches past music. Artist Emma Erickson will show work and release limited-edition posters. Chicago print shop Spudnick Press will run on-site screen printing in collaboration with Montucky Cold Snacks, while four tattoo artists offer flash designs. The venue itself gets reconfigured with installations and programming that tie the music to the physical space.
SPIN will document the night for editorial coverage — interviews, photography, and behind-the-scenes material — ensuring the evening registers beyond the room.
