The pair’s first full-length together lands on Thrill Jockey on 29 January, with ‘can’t we have both’ arriving as its first single.
Claire rousay and Zander Raymond have announced a collaborative album. Titled Something Good, it is the first full-length the two have made together and will be released through Thrill Jockey on 29 January. The record is being introduced by a new single, ‘can’t we have both’.
The announcement places rousay on familiar ground. Her work has long treated texture and proximity as compositional material, building pieces from field recordings, voice and small gestures rather than from obvious structural hooks. A collaboration, by definition, tests that approach against someone else’s instincts. What the single suggests is a shared willingness to let material sit unresolved rather than push it toward a conventional payoff.
Thrill Jockey is a fitting home for that kind of patience. The Chicago label has spent three decades releasing music that treats experimentation as a working practice rather than a genre marker, and it has never shown much interest in rushing records toward a clean resolution.
The timing also reads clearly. Rousay is among the first names announced for Unsound London this November, alongside RP Boo, Space Afrika and Lorenzo Senni. Between a new collaborative record and a festival bill built on exactly this kind of overlap, her current moment is less about a single release than about an ongoing set of conversations.
Something Good arrives 29 January via Thrill Jockey.
