DECEITS’ new single and video, “The First Day of Fall,” does not announce a mood so much as lay out two impulses in conflict. The song’s melodic pull works against its darker subject matter, building an atmosphere where sorrow and release sit close together. It is post-punk with a clear emotional center, not detachment.
According to the band, songwriter Kevin Moreno wrote the track the day before his birthday, during a pessimistic morning. The lyrics turn that timing into the song’s core tension: wanting to not exist on a day that is supposed to feel like a celebration. The video, directed by Shutter Visual, renders that state in visual terms, moving between the urge to disappear and the need to be seen.
That contrast is what gives the track its weight. It does not resolve sadness into something tidy
