The former Enhypen member begins reintroducing himself on his own terms with a two-track project shaped by rock and a push for unfiltered expression.
Three months after leaving Enhypen, the singer formerly known as Heeseung has launched a solo career under his given name, Evan. His debut project, Ride or Die, arrives with two tracks he helped build from ideation to topline—a deliberate move toward self-definition after seven years inside a group.
The release strips back the production layers familiar to K-pop and turns toward rock, a genre Evan says he developed an interest in while preparing the songs. The title track and its counterpart are built around directness: guitar-driven, emotionally present, and written to carry what he calls a “raw” sentiment rather than a polished persona. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, he described the focus as making sure nothing felt forced or overly deliberate, a line that suggests a rejection of the calculated rollout logic that often governs idol projects.
Evan’s audience has stayed close. When he opened his Instagram account in April, it reached one million followers within three hours; that number has since grown to roughly five million. Covers of SZA and Justin Bieber posted in recent days hinted at the softer, r&b-leaning textures in his voice, while the recorded work leans into a more live-band frame. The name Evan, he explained, was given to him by his mother and used throughout his life in English classes and abroad. He chose it now to anchor the music in something that felt honest.
Ride or Die isn’t a grand reinvention. It’s a small, serious attempt to reset—offering just enough to suggest a direction without overpromising.
