A limited-edition gain pedal with custom kaiju artwork follows last year’s extravagant Godzilla Stratocaster, offering a conventional op-amp distortion with active 2-band EQ.
Fender Japan’s Godzilla Stratocaster made a loud impression last year. The Custom Shop version, priced at $36,000, included a “Roar” button that pushed the hype into collectible territory. Now the company extends that collaboration into the pedal realm with the Fender Godzilla Distortion, a limited-edition stompbox that wraps a conventional gain circuit in kaiju-themed art.
Unlike the guitar’s theatrical feature, the pedal is built around an op-amp distortion engine. An active 2-band EQ sits at the center, with Bass and Treble knobs each offering 15dB of boost or cut. Volume and Gain controls round out the front panel. The circuit doesn’t chase novelty. It opts for a straightforward, sculptable drive that fits a board without demanding a themed rig.
The visual treatment is less restrained. Custom artwork wraps the enclosure, continuing the Godzilla motif that defined the matching Stratocaster. For players and collectors drawn to the earlier release, the pedal offers a more accessible entry point, though Fender has not disclosed pricing or production numbers yet.
The Godzilla Stratocaster was a striking statement piece, but its price and feature set cemented it as a showroom oddity. This pedal travels lighter. The distortion circuit keeps things usable, while the limited finish ties it to the collaboration. It’s a quieter kind of tribute, one that relies on tone shaping and shelf appeal rather than a dedicated roar.
