After visa problems forced her to cancel a U.S. tour and Coachella set, FKA twigs turned a moment of denial into a new track. The result, featuring Lil Yachty, is out now.
FKA twigs has released “On Your Mind,” a new collaboration with Lil Yachty that she says was written immediately after learning her previous management had failed to secure visas for her planned Eusexua tour and Coachella performance last year. The single arrives as twigs looks back on that setback from the other side of her first U.S. arena run.
In a social media post, twigs explained that on the evening she found out, she stayed late in a dance studio, rehearsing in denial. “I stayed late in the dance studio manically practicing in the hopes that the news was not true, and in denial that somehow I would still make it across the sea to perform,” she wrote. That manic energy translated directly into the song, which pairs sharp, industrial percussion with a direct question: “Why won’t you start dancing? Is there something on your mind?”
Rather than release it at the time, she held the track until now, framing it as a celebration of what artists can overcome. “I am giving this back story because after completing my first arena tour of the USA and EU it feels like the perfect time to release it,” she said. The decision to sit on “On Your Mind” until the BODY HIGH tour was finished gives the track a narrative arc that steers clear of frustration and points instead to resilience.
