The Scottish Gaelic metalcore band will release their second album in February, with new single Gabh Ceum Air Ais arriving as a collaboration with Limonead.
Gun Ghaol have confirmed a February release for their second album, Eadar Bàs is Bruadaran. The Scottish band work in Gaelic, which places them at an angle to most of the UK’s heavy music circuit, where metalcore’s vocabulary has settled into English more or less without argument.
The record’s first preview is Gabh Ceum Air Ais, a collaboration with Limonead. Announcing an album through a joint track rather than a solo single is a small decision with some weight behind it: it frames the new material as a conversation rather than a comeback statement, and it keeps the band’s collaborative instincts visible at the point where most acts narrow their focus.
The title, roughly between death and dreams, sets a frame the band has been building toward since their debut. Gaelic-language heavy music remains a narrow field, and the choice to keep writing inside it is not a novelty gesture so much as a working method, one that asks a genre built on breakdowns and blunt force to carry a language with a very different rhythm and a much smaller recorded tradition behind it.
What the second album has to answer is whether that method can hold across a full record without the language becoming decoration. The February release will put the question plainly, and Gabh Ceum Air Ais is the first real evidence of how Gun Ghaol intend to answer it.
