Estonian band Holy Motors return with a new album, Heaven’s Night, out October 16 via Wharf Cat, and share the restless single “Tough Crush.”
Holy Motors have set a release date for their second album, Heaven’s Night, due October 16 on Wharf Cat. The Estonian band shared a new single, “Tough Crush,” alongside the announcement.
Vocalist Eliann Tulve describes the track as a scene of unfulfilled longing: “I saw a tough dancer at a party and developed a heavy crush on their moves. The night was slow & quiet, so we went on a drive. As we passed another CircleK on the road, I realized they’re a dry companion, and it’s time to go home.” Her delivery is cool and unhurried, carrying the song’s noir-tinged lilt without tipping into melodrama.
The album was recorded at Ö Stuudio in Tartu, marking the first time the band tracked a full-length on home soil. Guitarist Lauri Raus described the setting as “a pawn shop of dusty relics where we could turn the amps up loud. It would never open, serve after-hours, and of course swing senselessly between what’s right and wrong in the process.” That loose, enclosed atmosphere seeps into “Tough Crush,” where reverb-soaked guitars and a steady pulse build a mood rather than a statement.
Heaven’s Night follows 2020’s Horse and expands the lineup to a five-piece with the addition of guitarist Ivar Mägi and multi-instrumentalist Villem Sarapuu. The ten-track album includes earlier single “Heaven’s Night” and arrives in October.
