The guitarist misstepped off the stage edge mid-performance, but the moment passed without serious incident.
A routine stadium set took an unexpected turn in Dublin on Friday night when Metallica’s Kirk Hammett fell from the stage during the band’s performance. The guitarist, mid-song and near the stage edge, lost his footing and dropped out of view. He returned to the stage moments later, unhurt, and the show continued without further interruption.
The fall occurred during a stop on the M72 world tour, which has Metallica playing multiple European dates this summer. Hammett’s movement-heavy playing style, often leading him right to the crowd barrier or the lip of the stage, is a fixture of the band’s live presentation. That physicality comes with occasional risk—stage dives and missteps are not rare in heavy music, even for seasoned professionals in controlled productions.
No official statement has been issued, but the episode appears to have been minor. Footage from the show shows Hammett quickly regaining composure and resuming his position. For a band whose performances are otherwise tightly choreographed, the moment was a brief, human glitch rather than a crisis. It did not visibly affect the rest of the set.
Metallica is no stranger to such incidents. Similar stage falls have occurred before, including by frontman James Hetfield, and rarely result in cancellations. The tour continues as planned.
