LEMFRECK Announces New Mixtape ‘CRYOGENICS’, Shares ‘I KNEW’

Newport’s LEMFRECK has shared ‘I KNEW’, the first single from his forthcoming mixtape ‘CRYOGENICS’, out September 25th via Noctown. The track applies a glazed, ’80s sophisti-pop finish to a different kind of breakup narrative, one where being right offers no comfort.

LEMFRECK describes the song as reaching the end of a relationship and realising that, deep down, you knew from the beginning it was probably going to end up here. It starts almost smugly, he explains, but that certainty falls apart: “You realise that being right doesn’t actually make you feel any better. You didn’t really want to be right at all.”

‘CRYOGENICS’ builds from the polemical feel of his 2022 project ‘BLOOD, SWEAT & FEARS’. The mixtape is structured around a fictional radio broadcast called NOCTOWN FM, using live presenter-style commentary, guests, and conversations to create an immersive listen. LEMFRECK says the concept is partly a response to how UK Black music is often overlooked by mainstream spaces, aiming to spotlight the genres, cultures, and communities that continue to shape his work.

With ‘I KNEW’, LEMFRECK sharpens a familiar romantic scenario into something closer to self-interrogation, setting the tone for a project built on context rather than simple track listing.
