Los Gemelos de Sinaloa Move Past a Label Split and Into a First U.S. Tour

After a decade of recording and a contentious exit from Rancho Humilde, the Cardenas twins have a No. 1, a new album and a management deal with Street Mob Records.

The Cardenas twins have been making records as Los Gemelos de Sinaloa for about a decade. What shifted over the past year was not the sound so much as the structure around them.

Juan Moises “Gemelo” Cardenas and his brother Robert “Temu” Cardenas were born and raised in Paramount, California, with parents based in Sinaloa. Gemelo was the one set on a music career first, competing on the TV talent show Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento in 2014 and deciding to form the duo with his brother. Years of label-hopping produced intermittent hits, including 2022’s “Andamos Mejor” and “Ahora Todo Es Diferente,” but little traction.

Then came a public and contentious split with their last label, Rancho Humilde, and a call to Jesús Ortiz Paz, the Fuerza Regida frontman known as JOP, who signed them to a management deal with Street Mob Records. The results are legible: “Ferrari,” their collaboration with Fuerza Regida and Clave Especial, hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Regional Mexican Songs chart.

The album The Gemeliza followed last month, written and co-produced largely by Gemelo and moving through corridos, sierreño and norteño. Fuerza Regida appears on several tracks, including “Chrome Hearts” and “Baby Mama.” Gemelo has described the intent plainly: “We try to talk about prospering, motivation, and God in our music.” A first U.S. tour now puts the catalog in front of rooms that will judge it without the label drama attached.
