Midnight Prey Return with Jenseitsritt

Naming an album Uncertain Times in 2019 turned out to be more prophecy than marketing. German band Midnight Prey have moved past that accidental prescience with Jenseitsritt, their second full-length, arriving September 25 through Dying Victims Productions.

The group operates in traditional speed and heavy metal territory, with enough hard rock in the vocals to keep the songs from feeling like a museum piece. Guitarist and vocalist Winston Ziller is central to that identity. His playing pushes the arrangements forward, and his voice avoids the standard Halford or Dickinson imitation that defines much of the field.

Midnight Prey describe the album as an attempt to capture the energy of their live performances in a studio setting. “Not bound by genre, we strive for raw and uncompromising sound that comes from the heart,” the band said. “No pedalboards, no samples. An unapologetic answer to short-lived, boring, overproduced bands.”

That statement reads as a position, not just a production note. Jenseitsritt arrives in a landscape where speed and heavy metal often lean on polish; Midnight Prey are making a case for something more direct.
