Peaches on No Lube So Rude, Menopause, and Growing With Her Audience

Peaches has spent 25 years provoking audiences, but her return with No Lube So Rude arrives at a different kind of confrontation. The album, her first in roughly a decade, shifts from the antagonism of her early work toward something more collective. Speaking with Kyle Meredith, she described the change: “Before, I felt more like me versus them. Now it’s like, ‘Oh, we just got to all try and get an understanding, but fight. Keep that fight.’”

That tension runs through “Hanging Titties,” an opening track that turns menopause and aging into something visible, funny, and sexual. “There shouldn’t be shame around that,” Peaches said, pointing to longer lifespans and the need to rethink what middle age and beyond can look like. She also credited the Teachers of Peaches anniversary tour with connecting generations of fans, making the current moment feel less like nostalgia and more like a shared present. The new live production extends that logic through a collaboration with Squirt Deluxe and opera costumes that have been thoroughly Peachified.

Elsewhere, “You’re Alright” brings Peaches together with director Agniya Galdanova and Gena Marvin, the Russian political drag performer at the center of Queendom. Shot around a Paris Metro station without closing the location, the video uses Gena’s elaborate taped costumes as both expression and prison. A Pixel Grip remix featuring IDLES’ Joe Talbot gives the song a second life, which Peaches described as feeling “like a new song.”
