The Colombian singer’s fund directs half a million toward classroom support for children affected by the June disaster, with a broader aid campaign also enlisting Hugh Jackman, John Legend, and others.
Shakira has become the latest high-profile musician to attach a concrete number to Venezuela earthquake relief. In a video released today, the singer announced that $500,000 from the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund will be redirected to education intervention for thousands of children impacted by the pair of earthquakes that struck on June 24. The move deepens a relationship that has quietly defined her public work: she sits on the fund’s board, committed all profits from the official World Cup anthem “Dai Dai” to the same cause in May, and will perform at the FIFA World Cup Final at MetLife Stadium on July 19, 2026.
The announcement video also serves as a rallying cry for football fans to contribute to the fund’s larger $100 million target for global education resources. It arrives as part of a broader push that includes appearances from Hugh Jackman, John Legend, Elyanna, Kat Graham, Dhar Mann, and former Irish prime minister Leo Varadkar, alongside an open letter from former heads of state and philanthropists insisting that “no child is left on the sidelines.”
The scale of loss on the ground puts the fundraising in harsh relief. More than 2,600 were confirmed dead and over 60,000 remain missing. Among the deceased were all four members of the rising Venezuelan nu-metal band Van Der Dijs. Earlier responses from the music world included $100,000 from Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation and a benefit t-shirt from Rush.
Shakira is currently moving through U.S. stadiums on the latest leg of her “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour,” her first global outing since the 2014 World Cup.
