Slash Makes Broadway Debut in The Lost Boys

The guitarist joined the musical’s cast for a one-night performance of “Have to Have You,” less than 24 hours after playing a New Jersey stadium.

Slash spent Wednesday night playing music from 1987 at a New Jersey stadium. Less than a day later, he was on a Broadway stage where the same year was being recreated intentionally. The Lost Boys, the musical adaptation of Joel Schumacher’s vampire comedy, opened in theaters ten days after Appetite for Destruction. Its Santa Carla boardwalk and Eighties costuming made the timing feel less like accident than context.

Slash entered early, during the rock-club scene in which the show’s vampire band performs “Have to Have You.” He had recorded the solo for the studio version released the previous October, but the appearance marked his first time playing the song live alongside the cast. Duff McKagan was in the audience. Ali Louis Bourzgui, who plays David and won a Tony for the role in June, said the audience got on its feet and stayed there.

The one-night appearance was Slash’s Broadway debut.
