Slayr’s ‘Avant Nova’ EP Lands Friday With Underscores on Lead Single

The Philadelphia rapper caps a stretch of high-profile festival shows with a six-track project and his first headlining tour.

Philadelphia rapper Slayr will release a new EP, Avant Nova, this Friday. The six-track project opens with “Promise,” produced by Underscores, whose hyperpop instincts meet Slayr’s direct delivery. The title gestures toward Fabula Nova, another project the 19-year-old has teased, though no further details have been shared.

The EP arrives on a crowded release day that also includes new records from Ken Carson and Future, but Slayr’s own schedule has been busy. Since dropping the expanded BloodLuxe edition of his seventh mixtape in March—adding ten tracks with producers like Prettifun, 808toofly, and Waera—he has played Rolling Loud Orlando and Summer Smash. In August, he begins his first North American headlining tour.

Avant Nova is compact, with no guests outside of Prettifun on “Switch My Swag.” The tracklist suggests a focused statement at a moment when his live profile is rising. Tour routing includes stops in Seattle, Los Angeles, Atlanta, New York, and a homecoming at Philadelphia’s Brooklyn Bowl in September.
