Sofia Cordoba’s “Symptom of Love” Is a Quiet First Step into English

After a string of Spanish-language releases, the Colombian singer-songwriter shifts to English with an acoustic ballad that previews her upcoming EP.

Sofia Cordoba has been releasing music in Spanish for a while now, but “Symptom of Love” does something different. It’s her first English-language track, a straightforward acoustic ballad that feels less like a grand debut and more like a new door opening quietly. The song pulls from the same melodic instincts she’s honed in earlier work, just delivered in a language she’s only now committing to record.

The track is the first taste of a forthcoming EP. It doesn’t overreach. A clean guitar line and Cordoba’s steady voice carry the song, leaving room for the bilingual writing she’s been developing since childhood. Growing up in Bogotá, her parents’ record collection threw American and British rock in with Colombian and Cuban music. U2, Guns N’ Roses, Shakira. That backdrop doesn’t scream for attention here, but it’s the reason the transition sounds natural rather than calculated.

In a recent interview, Cordoba put the influence plainly: “I remember music being everywhere, I’m lucky my parents have good taste in music.” The statement isn’t nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake. It explains why a shift that could feel like a market play lands instead like an artist finally making use of a vocabulary she’s always had. The EP will likely continue pulling from both sides of her listening, but for now, “Symptom of Love” is a small step. No reinvention, just a widening of the lane.
