Stephen Colbert Finally Sat for His Own Questionert

The host answered the same intimate questions he has asked more than 80 guests during his Late Show tenure. The segment aired in the show’s final week.

Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show will end its nine-year run on Thursday. On Wednesday, the host did something he had never done: he submitted to the Colbert Questionert himself. The quiz, a quick-fire set of personal questions, became a signature of his tenure. More than 80 celebrities had taken it. For the penultimate episode, a panel of past questionert subjects and friends — Jeff Daniels, Robert De Niro, Amy Sedaris, Ben Stiller, Mark Hamill, Aubrey Plaza, his wife Evie, and John Dickerson — turned the table.

Colbert’s answers were unfiltered and quietly revealing. He described a two-part sandwich philosophy, summer’s tomato on thin white bread eaten over the sink versus the year-round hot pastrami on rye. His first concert: Chuck Mangione’s “Children of Sanchez Tour”
