The Aadam Jacobs Collection Uploads Over 2,000 Live Recordings to Archive

A Chicago music fan’s personal archive of live recordings, spanning decades of shows by iconic artists, has been digitized and made publicly accessible.

The Aadam Jacobs Collection, a vast personal archive of live concert recordings, is now publicly accessible through the Internet Archive. Uploaded on November 30, the initial digital trove contains over 2,000 recordings from a collection estimated to total 10,000 performances.

Jacobs, a Chicago-based music fan, began recording and collecting shows in the early 1980s. His archive captures a pivotal era of alternative and independent music, with sets from artists like Nirvana, Sonic Youth, Pixies, Pavement, Stereolab, and Uncle Tupelo, among many others.

In a statement to the Chicago Reader earlier this year, Jacobs cited preservation as a primary motive for the project. He noted the physical degradation of his original tapes and a desire to secure the material before it was lost. The uploaded selections represent a significant portion of his work, curated from decades of dedicated documentation.
