The Academic Announce Third Album ‘I’m Not Crying, You Are’ for January 2027

The Mullingar band’s first album since 2021 arrives on 22 January 2027, following the single ‘Keeping Up Appearances’. A New Year’s Eve bill at Dublin Castle comes first.

The Academic will release their third album, ‘I’m Not Crying, You Are’, on 22 January 2027. It is the Mullingar band’s first full-length since ‘Community Spirit’ in 2021, and it follows the recent single ‘Keeping Up Appearances’.

Six years is enough time for a band’s standing to change twice over. The Academic arrived as teenagers writing guitar songs built for rooms that were expanding quickly. The Irish guitar landscape they came up in is considerably more crowded now, and the gap between records puts them in the position of reintroducing themselves rather than simply continuing.

Before the album lands, the band will appear on a New Year’s Eve bill at Dublin Castle, where Aaron Rowe tops the line-up, joined by THEATRE, KK Lewis and DJ Shelly Gray.

The stretch between the single and the release date gives The Academic room to work the record gradually instead of front-loading it. Their early momentum came from touring rather than from any single moment of arrival, and a long lead time asks a straightforward question: whether the songs still carry when part of the audience has had years to drift.
