The Linda Lindas Find a Ghostly Note in “Everybody Told Me”

The Linda Lindas have moved further from the brisk punk snap that first brought them attention. “Everybody Told Me,” the latest single from their third album Gotta Get Out, arrives with a Victorian-themed video and a songwriting detail the band says marks a first: a fade-out ending.

Mila De La Garza described the track as collaborative and fun to play, but also pointed to the record’s darker shades. “We really dove deep into our emo and sad vibes on a few songs on this record,” she said in a statement. The video’s ghostly, period styling follows that impulse rather than undercutting it.

The shift is consistent with the band’s evolution since Growing Up. Their songwriting has become the main point of change, more than the energy behind it. A call-and-response bridge and the fade-out suggest a group thinking about arrangement as much as attack.

The Linda Lindas will spend much of the year on the road, headlining dates with support including Rat Utopia Experiment, VIAL, Deux Visages, Adan Diaz, and Grace Bowers, plus a run with Bleachers in September.
