The Reds, Pinks and Purples Announce Companion Record ‘True Love Daydream’

Glenn Donaldson returns to the material behind Acknowledge Kindness with a companion EP, opening with the original slow version of “Heaven of Love.”

The Reds, Pinks and Purples have announced True Love Daydream, a companion record to their recent album Acknowledge Kindness. It will be released on September 25.

Songwriter Glenn Donaldson, a steady presence in San Francisco’s indie pop scene, wrote the EP during the same sessions as the full-length. He describes it not as an outtakes collection but as “a little boat set adrift off the shore of the main album.”

The first piece from the EP is “Heaven of Love (Slow Version),” the original arrangement of a song that later took a more pop-oriented shape on the album. Donaldson says the lyrics and melodies are substantially different. He reworked the track after deciding Acknowledge Kindness had too many ballads, but believes the earlier version may be the song’s true form. The ending is more emotional, and he resists explaining the song directly. “It’s true that sometimes we need to imagine there’s an Earthly heaven that’s just out of reach,” he says.

True Love Daydream offers a second reading of the same creative period without reopening the album itself.
