The band leaves Run For Cover after more than a decade and works with a new producer for the first time. Two tracks are out now.
Turnover will release their sixth studio album, Down On Earth, in the coming weeks. It’s the band’s first independent record since 2012, cutting ties with Run For Cover after a long run that included 2015’s Peripheral Vision and every LP since. The split from the label arrives alongside another first: a full-length made without producer Will Yip. Zac Montez, the group’s longtime front-of-house engineer, handled production instead.
The two new singles, “I See You And Realize” and “Nightjar,” stick close to the drowsy dream-pop Turnover has refined over the last decade. There’s no sharp stylistic turn, but the sound carries a subtle difference: less gloss, more air, a casual drift that feels tied to the different recording setup. The songs don’t rely on the tighter, more polished architecture of 2022’s Myself In The Way.
The album news explains why Turnover appeared on this summer’s Bonnaroo and Governors Ball lineups. A longer tour with Narrow Head and She’s Green is also on the books, with details to come. For now, these two tracks are enough to signal the band is working on their own terms.
