Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats Set September Release for New Album Shapes of Midnight

Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats will release their next album, Shapes of Midnight, on September 18 through Killer Candy Records. The announcement arrives with the title track, a second preview following April’s “Don’t Let It Control You.”

Where that earlier single tightened their grip on eerie garage-doom, “Shapes of Midnight” moves at a brisk, boogie-infected pace—pulling a thread from Sabbath and tying it to something closer to their own early, rawer records. There is still a funhouse horror dimension, that same claustrophobic retro gleam, but the song opens midway into a psych-prog stretch that gestures toward Hawkwind’s space rock drift. It’s an agile shift for a band whose last full-length, Nell’ Ora Blu, leaned heavily on synths and cinematic sprawl.

The group frames the album as a deliberate hybrid: the guitar-forward attack of their earlier material crossed with the bolder psychedelic electronics they’ve absorbed since. The title track’s structure bears that out—familiar heaviness refracted through a more adventurous lens.
