Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats Return With Sharp New Single “Don’t Let It Control You”

The English psych-doom group drops their first new material in years, pointing toward a full album expected later in 2025.

There’s a leaner, more direct energy running through “Don’t Let It Control You,” the first new Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats track in what feels like forever. The English band built its reputation on hazy, fuzz-drenched doom, but this single cuts a different path. It’s taut and propulsive, channeling something closer to raw proto-punk than the lumbering psych rituals of earlier records.

The song arrives without much ceremony, just a sudden appearance that confirms the group has been working toward something bigger. A new album is due later this year, though details beyond that remain thin. What’s clear is that Kevin Starrs and company haven’t lost their instinct for threading menace through melody. The riff hits fast and the vocals stay coiled just beneath the surface, carrying that unmistakable eerie quality the band has always done well.

Uncle Acid hasn’t released a full-length since 2018, so even a single track counts as a signal. And this one suggests the next phase might sound different from what came before. Tighter. More immediate. Less interested in drowning you in distortion and more focused on getting in, making its point, and getting out. For a band that’s spent years buried under layers of vintage amplifier hum, that shift in approach is worth paying attention to.
