The rapper has sent a direct message to Jewish leaders in the UK following sponsor withdrawals and public debate over his headline booking.
YE, the artist formerly known as Kanye West, has sent a direct message to Jewish leaders in the UK. This follows the ongoing controversy around his headline booking for all three nights of London’s Wireless Festival this July.
The festival faced significant backlash and lost major sponsors, including Pepsi and PayPal, after the announcement. YE’s recent history of antisemitic statements and imagery had led to public calls for him to be denied entry to the country.
His message represents an attempt at direct engagement ahead of the scheduled performances. The rapper has previously attributed his past offensive behaviour to bipolar disorder, stating he has sought new treatment.
The festival’s decision to book him, and his subsequent response, continues to place Wireless at the centre of a difficult cultural and ethical debate within the UK music scene.
