Two screamo units converge on a split LP structured around a singular, enigmatic concept.
The split album often functions as a handshake, a brief introduction between two related acts. For Finnish band Letterbombs and Boston’s Heaven Through Violence, their collaborative LP PALLA is something else entirely: a unified, high-concept work built around a single word.
PALLA unfolds not as two separate sides, but as a continuous libretto where the title itself becomes the central lyrical and structural device. The music mirrors this conceptual tightness. Letterbombs’ contribution is a torrent of frantic, melodic screamo, their signature blend of chaotic urgency and poignant guitar lines feeling both desperate and meticulously composed. Heaven Through Violence answers with a denser, more atmospheric weight, their sound rooted in a heavier, metallic hardcore crunch that provides a dark, compelling counterpoint.
The result is a record where intense musical exploration is guided by a minimalist premise. The shared concept acts as a spine, allowing both bands’ distinct voices to amplify a collective, agitated mood. It is a work of severe focus, where the energy of screamo is channeled not just through sound, but through a deliberate and cryptic framework.
