Tipify and SPIN Host “Road to Austin” Showcase at SXSW

The twelve-hour event at The Courtyard ATX featured fourteen emerging artists, from Brooklyn’s Belle Blue to Atlanta’s Buddy Red.

During SXSW week, SPIN magazine and the artist support platform Tipify presented a twelve-hour showcase for independent talent. The event, called “Road to Austin,” took place on March 13 at The Courtyard ATX and featured fourteen rising artists.

The lineup covered a broad sonic range. It included the soulful sounds of Smooth Nature, the Britpop-inspired DAIISTAR, and a high-energy set from New York electronic rock group Turbo Goth. Brooklyn artist Belle Blue performed in a bloody hospital gown for a visually striking show.

A surprise appearance came from Atlanta blues musician Buddy Red, closing the night. The showcase functioned as the finale for Tipify’s new “Road to Austin” discovery program, which is designed to direct industry attention toward developing artists outside traditional label systems.
