sombr covers Radiohead, performs with Billy Idol at Coachella

The artist’s Weekend Two set featured a guest appearance from Billy Idol and Steve Stevens, plus a cover of Radiohead’s “Fake Plastic Trees.”

During his Coachella Weekend Two performance, sombr brought out Billy Idol and guitarist Steve Stevens for a rendition of Idol’s 1983 hit “Eyes Without a Face.” The guest appearance highlighted the 20-year-old artist’s continued integration into a broader rock lineage.

Further into the set, sombr offered a cover of Radiohead’s “Fake Plastic Trees” from the 1995 album ‘The Bends.’ His vocal delivery navigated the song’s dynamic range, pushing into a strained falsetto that defined the interpretation.

The performances arrive during a breakout year for sombr, who has scheduled an expansive North American tour for this summer. The Coachella slots, and their choice of collaborators and covers, point to an artist situating himself within a specific guitar-driven tradition.
