Coal Chamber Drummer Mikey “Bug” Cox Diagnosed With Stage 3 Cancer, Now Cancer Free

Ahead of Coal Chamber’s set at Sick New World, drummer Mikey “Bug” Cox revealed he was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer last year and is now cancer free. He is raffling off a custom drum set to benefit the nonprofit Fuck Cancer.

Coal Chamber drummer Mikey “Bug” Cox was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer on April 1, 2025. After a year of treatment, he says he’s now cancer free.

Cox shared the news in a post accompanying an online raffle for one of his custom Coal Chamber drum sets. The proceeds go to the nonprofit organization Fuck Cancer. He described the past year as “absolutely brutal rounds of radiation, chemotherapy, and eventually surgery.”

The revelation comes just days before Coal Chamber plays Las Vegas’ Sick New World festival this Saturday, April 25th. It’s the band’s first major public appearance since Cox’s diagnosis.

In the raffle description, Cox wrote about gratitude hitting different now. He acknowledged he’s not unique in this fight, noting that many people are dealing with similar battles. The gesture feels less like a promotional stunt and more like a real attempt to turn a personal ordeal into something useful for others.

Coal Chamber has not commented further on Cox’s health or the band’s future plans beyond the festival set.
