Kurt Vile Plays Three Songs on The Adam Friedland Show, Debuts New One

Before the interview, Vile gave TAFS Unplugged an early look at his next album, including the unreleased love song “Every Time I Look At You.”

Kurt Vile stopped by The Adam Friedland Show on May 15 as part of the run-up to his new album, Philadelphia’s Been Good To Me. Before the conversation, he taped a short set for the show’s Unplugged segment. Three songs, no percussion, just Vile tracing the contours of his upcoming work.

He started with a solo acoustic version of the album’s opener, “Zoom 97.” Then came the first public performance of an unreleased track from the LP, “Every Time I Look At You.” The opening couplet “Every time I look at you / Sparks fly from my eyes” hits with the kind of plainspoken warmth Vile has made his signature. He closed with an electric take on “Hit of the Highlife,” the droney standout from last year’s Classic Love EP with Luke Roberts, letting the guitar smolder and hum.

The full interview follows the music, but the three songs already sketch where Vile sits right now: melodic, unhurried, and precise about where the light falls. Philadelphia’s Been Good To Me lands May 29 on Verve.
