Patty Schemel Is Selling the Kurt Cobain T-Shirt He Gave Her After a 1993 Photoshoot

The former Hole drummer lists the ‘Foxes’ shirt, worn by Cobain in a defining Nirvana publicity image, via Julien’s Auctions.

A shirt worn by Kurt Cobain during a 1993 Anton Corbijn photoshoot is now on the auction block, offered by the person he gave it to. Patty Schemel, the former Hole drummer, is selling the blue “Foxes” t-shirt through Julien’s Auctions. Bidding has already pushed the price to $8,000, above the $4,000–$6,000 estimate.

The shirt appears in one of Nirvana’s most recognizable publicity pictures, taken July 16, 1993. It’s the same image that serves as the banner on the band’s Spotify page, with Cobain in a pair of sunglasses that became his signature. The front of the shirt references the 1980 film Foxes, a teen drama starring Jodie Foster. Cobain picked it off a stylist’s rack because he loved the movie, one he had watched with Schemel. The two shared an affinity for 1970s and 1980s cult films about adolescent angst.
