Tierra Whack will put out a new mixtape on June 19, Juneteenth. The Philadelphia rapper and visual artist made the announcement earlier this week, calling the project Whack’s Museum — the parentheses are her own doing. She described it simply as a “rap mixtape,” a term that feels pointed after the wide-ranging experimentation of her post-Whack World work.

In the same Instagram post, Whack invited listeners to text an apology to (323) 747-7544. The ask is bizarre, maybe a little unsettling, and entirely in line with the strange, participatory world-building she does better than most. Tucked into her carousel was a screenshot of a message from André 3000. He wrote that he loves the tape. For an artist who has never leaned heavily on co-signs, the nod lands quietly — but it matters.

No audio has surfaced yet. There’s no tracklist, no single, no explanation of what a museum means in this context. But Whack’s track record gives the date weight. Whack World in 2018 condensed an entire artistic identity into 15 minutes. Her proper debut album World Wide Whack arrived only last year, sharp and vulnerable in ways that took time to unpack. That this tape arrives so soon after suggests a different kind of energy — a return to rap, unburdened.
